Today was my first solo shift in the IMC/ICU department at Pomerado Hospital. At the end of my shift, I only had one more box on my competency checklist to get signed off and it was for patient positioning. I asked Paul, one of my favorite nurses, to sign it off for me, even though I never really helped him reposition anyone. The life team always stepped in to do it. But anyways, I went up to him at his station.
Me: Hi Paul.. so I only have one more box to be signed off on and its for patient positioning. I know I haven’t really repositioned a patient with you yet, but can you sign off on it anyway?
Paul: Oh yeah sure!
Me: YAYY!! Thank you!
Paul: You’re so cute. You’re always saying “yay” and smiling and happy.
Me: Oh yeah, sorry. People tell me I do that a lot. But I mean, it’s good to be happy right?
Paul: Yeah definitely. I think you’re going to brighten this place up.
